Training & Implementation Manager Job at Hermes Europe – in Avonmouth
You will be responsible for designing and developing a comprehensive suite of training interventions with our Training and Implementation and Process Management team, that are effective and sustained at warehouse level across our south area
Your working knowledge of depot operations, understanding of performance, and trends, and your engagement with process and project management will position you to create new and improved training for new joiners, and refreshers to ensure our skills and knowledge remain current and best in class.
You will develop and maintain our master skills matrix and ensure our depot operations maintain and proactively refer to this – inspiring the team to closely monitor and act on opportunities.
A champion for change culturally by revisiting depots to review behaviours and breach of processes as well as identifying you own personal and professional development; the role holder will be fully competent as a senior multi-disciplined operations manager.
Ability to lead from the front is essential in this role, being readily prepared to jump in to the operation to show and tell best practice and develop team skills in the live operating environment. Stability of the network and sustainable performance are a measure of this role’s success. You will need to be able to influence all levels of management to ensure your training remains in place.
The role will require travel, flexibility to operate across all operating hours and days.
You will be accountable for:
Planning, organising and delivering the process and operational management training and induction of new Depot Parcel People, from section leader to Depot Management levels. Ensuring that new joiner learning is completed, and the individual has a phased transition into the role
Delivering group and individual face to face training sessions in operational process and policy and continuously review training content to ensure it remains relevant, up to date and utilises the most effective, valuable methods of delivery
Working closely with the Process Design Team, Learning and Development and Depot Management Teams you will be developing effective training solutions to engage and increase skills and knowledge in the Section Leader & line manager operation.
Acting as the business specialist for several operational processes. Representing the national depot network of process owners (section lead) in process engineering, to enhance and develop the process (continued improvement)
Creating and implementing a measurable mentoring programme (a process centre of excellence) that brings the depots process owners together with their peers to share best practice, resolutions and drive continuous improvements and standardisation across the country.
Working closely with the Depot Management and HR team to see relevant skills are recruited and develop processes providing a smooth transition through engagement and employment
Scheduling and delivery of training solutions to upskill and prepare the Depot operation for specific change and seasonal activities. Support implementation of business change and innovation by taking a proactive approach to updating necessary training and reiterating key messages where appropriate
Identifying and developing ‘Champions’ in the operational team, support their development through train the trainer initiatives, providing consistent indirect line management to this supplementary resource
Monitoring the impact of implementations and/or the teams development interventions through the review of a range of metrics, including key business KPIs, service, quality and cost, line manager feedback, and employee and courier feedback
Supporting the outputs of succession planning within Field, coaching line managers to ensure that all identified talent have Personal Development Plans in place to support the move for their next promotion and that all operational competency gaps have plans in place to rectify
Create depot training plans together with the local management team and pre-agreed approach to deploying training through to attaining sign off of the learner’s level of competence (ie fit for practice) and an agreed approach to further learning or corrective actions as applicable.
Collaborating with the Process management team to create new processes for new products, services and solutions and to drive continued improvement to established operations that will improve cost, quality or service and sustainability.
Ensure all agreed SOPs are maintained (with the process management team), training solutions updated to reflect latest process excellence and all operating processes are executed effectively and embedded into the operation.
Represent the training and implementation team at meetings with operations to keep abreast of objectives and needs of the business and any other internal and external meetings as required
Budget management and reporting with emphasis on continuous increase in value of training ROI (reduce costs, increase quality, retention and improved outcomes)
Skills and Qualifications
Full Driving License
Flexible, able to travel and will require some staying away from home
A Level English and Maths or equivalent
Minimum 5 years work experience in an Ops Management role
Preferred experience in Logistics/3PL/Service industry
CI Specialist Certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certified, or equivalent is desirable
A training or coaching qualification is desirable
People management experience in a multi-functional team
Compliance and Quality management experience
Evidence of using data and qualitative information to develop insight into process failure and the ability to translate this into clear action plans and engage the operators in this process
Developing and Delivering Training for unskilled workforce
Delivering Train the Trainer learning to first line managers
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Confident presentation, facilitation and coaching skills
A strong motivator and ability to support and coach for performance (directly and indirectly)
Managing change in a unionised environment
Project implementation (people, physical and systems)
