As a Site EHS Director, you will be responsible for providing strong leadership and guidance to the site in Environmental, Health and Safety management. You will effectively plan, organise, manage and direct the EHS and Risk Management resources for the Irvine site, ensuring all processes, activities and improvement programmes are compliant with a variety of standards, including those imposed internally and externally. Through effective influencing, mentoring and networking, you will set EHS standards on site and empower and enable a culture which means all colleagues on site achieve EHS targets. You’ll manage a range of external stakeholders including key regulatory, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), for whom you are the primary point of contact for GSK Irvine.

Additionally, you will be an active member of the Site Leadership Team, with additional responsibility for all key site decisions made and to contribute to a variety of wider site activities outside your departmental or functional responsibilities. You will play an important role in the success of this site, contributing to GSK’s production of life saving medicines. This is a strong leadership team, allowing you an opportunity to gain experience and exposure across the business, as well as visibility of the whole manufacturing process and the chance to build a usable network of senior colleagues. Dependent on your own skillset and goals, this position may offer the chance to subsequently diversify into other areas, or to continue moving up through the EHS Discipline into more senior or more central positions.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Managing and developing team members to meet site EHS, Risk Management, Security and Loss prevention requirements, as well as budgets and resources within EHS

Managing all Environmental Health & Safety issues as per the Irvine Site EHS Management System to ensure compliance with UK legislation.

Managing and responding to regulatory inspections on the Irvine site such that compliance is maintained.

Interpreting, managing & promoting Global Corporate EHS, Corporate Insurance and Risk Management, Corporate Security and Investigations, Factory Mutual policies and standards to provide expert guidance and advice on their implementation.

Creating and executing strategies and plans to ensure that long term Site EHS objectives are met. Assist Departments to create, implement and review progress against annual EHS action plans.

Reviewing the site EHS culture, identifying improvements and promoting a positive EHS culture and practices,

Managing and controlling the Site Waste Water treatment plant, ensuring we remain compliant at all times with Govt Emissions directive’s.

Ensuring provision an effective security system/service through the management of outsourced functions to align with corporate security and investigation policies

Ensure the continued development and maintenance of the Site emergency procedures, systems and teams to meet legislative requirements.

About You:
This is a senior leadership role, with significant responsibility for leading and motivating others – not just your team but the wider business. As such, you will need to be a confident and compelling leader with accomplished networking skills. You’ll use these to influence and sell EHS, building an engaged and enthusiastic community to spread and empower the EHS message on site. Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills will be required to do this, as you must be able to work effectively across all site functions as well as above site and with external parties (regulatory bodies and inspection authorities). As a leader, it would be beneficial to take a flexible and imaginative approach – an openness to change and an enthusiasm and energy around problem solving will help in responding creatively to the variety of challenging situations which you may need to overcome. However, this must be combined with a responsible approach and a comfort with accountability, data and strategic thinking.

Why You?

Required Qualifications and experience:
Degree qualified in a relevant disciple (such as and Engineering or EHS subject)

OR with significant industry experience in a relevant senior EHS role

Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation

Member of I.O.S.H or similar, or capable of attaining suitable qualification for entry

Proven experience in a leadership or management role

Industry experience in continuous process manufacturing, such as that found in Pharma, Beverages, Oil and Gas etc.

Additional Skills:
Holds Engineering Chartership

Accredited ideally with a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher

Additional qualification/certification in leadership and management

Demonstrated Process Safety knowledge

Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
