The Digital Humanities Institute (DHI) is located in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Sheffield. The DHI is
one of the UK’s leading centres for Digital Humanities, providing technology research, computational research and online
publishing for over 100 humanities research projects at more than 120 universities and organisations in the UK and
internationally. The DHI’s team of research software engineers work with academics and non-academics on collaborative,
multi-stakeholder projects in which the principal deliverables are online resources or software and which the DHI will then
maintain and keep publicly accessible over the long term.
Established in the early 1990s, the DHI intends to build on its reputation and expertise from 2021 onwards by delivering new
postgraduate taught programmes; the MA Digital Culture and Communication which explores the ways in which digital
technologies are transforming human experience and artistic and humanistic practices, and the MA Cultural Data
Management and Communication which develops and deepens understanding of the principles and methods of managing,
analysing and communicating different types of cultural data.
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Student Experience Officer on an open ended, full-time contract. This is a unique
opportunity to join a highly motivated team of academic and administrative professionals in a highly supportive environment.
Reporting to the Deputy Faculty Director of Operations, the Senior Student Experience Officer will administratively
co-ordinate the learning and teaching function for the Digital Humanities Institute (DHI) and related student-facing activities.
The post-holder will ensure delivery of a high-quality customer-focused service to staff and students and the effective and
timely delivery of the administrative processes which underpin core business functions throughout the student journey, from
admission and onto the alumni community. This includes internal and external communications, admissions, registrations,
assessment, teaching delivery, pastoral care, quality assurance, the management of module and programme information, and
This varied role will require the post-holder to work creatively and collaboratively across the DHI, the Faculty and the wider
University with all constituents (academic staff, professional service teams and students) to strengthen and develop key
processes, and to maximise the potential of the Professional Services team in support of the DHI’s goals and objectives. The
post-holder requires excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage a challenging workload.
