Job Description

The firm’s Second Line of Defense is the independent risk management area comprised of Risk Management and CCOR, responsible for developing and monitoring the execution of the risk governance structure. The Second Line of Defense Policies, Standards and Procedures Governance Group reports to the Head of Firmwide Regulatory Strategy and Policies and Standards Governance, who in turn reports to the firm’s Global Chief Compliance Officer. The group is an area of increasing importance in the firm and in the industry, forming part of the firm’s response to new regulations and guidance impacting specific businesses, initiatives or regulatory registrations. The group’s main focus is policy, standards and procedure governance and practices for the firm’s Second Line of Defense.

Position Description

Governance over policies, standards and procedures (collectively, “governance documents”) is an area of increasing importance in the firm and in the industry. The Risk Management and CCOR Policies, Standards and Procedures Governance Associate is responsible for managing the governance of Policies, Standards and Procedures. Interacting with and providing advice to Document Owners and their designees to ensure documents are updated and current, and conform to the firmwide requirement. The role provides active and direct leadership in the development, drafting, review, socialization and approval of documents, including ongoing maintenance of the inventory. Additionally, the role supports ongoing quality control and involvement in other strategic initiatives.


Develop in-depth subject matter expertise of the firm’s governance documents

Work with document owners and authors throughout the lifecycle of documents

Serve as primary contact for documents, ensuring consistency of content and “look and feel”

Engage with LOBs, Region, and Second Line of Defense teams to ascertain document needs and appropriateness

Review document/s for potential rationalization of overall inventory across LOBs / Regions

Socialize policies and standards to stakeholders for review and feedback

Assess document content against Legal Obligations, including remediation requirements

Develop communications related to policies, standards and procedures

Lead policy training initiatives, new technology and other group initiatives as they arise

Experience in Compliance, Risk or Audit activities, preferably within the financial services industry

Bachelor or higher degree in law, finance, accounting, or a related discipline

Professional maturity and confidence in expressing a point of view with senior management

Demonstrated ability to partner effectively across different businesses and functional areas

Strong attention to detail

Strong project management skills

Strong control mindset

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong process and business analysis skills

Strong Excel, Word and Power Point skills as well as ability to become a subject-matter expert in new authoring and workflow technology and portal management
