The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career in which is rewarding and where you can really make a difference? Come and join the Smart Energy Systems Team. This role is responsible for contributing to research projects related to power systems and market design, complex system optimisation, distributed generation and energy storage. You will work with EDF Energy, EDF Group, UK academia and research councils to develop and deliver research projects relating to power systems modelling and economics, as well as integration of renewable power generation into transmission and distribution networks.

As an Research Engineer, you’ll play an important role contributing to these projects by undertaking system modelling and design, data analysis and project management. You will also undertake technical and economic power systems modelling utilising state of the art techniques, source data and information for the use in research projects and manage and monitor the deliverables agreed with the Business Unit and EDF R&D.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you do not need to be in the Interchange office every day, as long as you’re able to travel to the office 2/3 days a week to collaborate with your team and stakeholders. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively. The Role

Your strong knowledge of power systems, transmission and distribution networks and distributed energy assets will be invaluable in the future of these projects. Knowledge of modelling and coding in Python is strongly preferred and excellent communication skills are vital as you will be expected to communicate complex topics to audiences from a variety of backgrounds and seniority.

You will be responsible for delivering high quality analytical modelling and projects for internal and external stakeholders based in the UK and abroad and will also ensure coordination with and knowledge transfer from and to EDF Group R&D where there are existing capabilities, skills and activities. An excellent knowledge of the technologies and the key challenges for this sector is essential.
