Policy Manager / Rheolwr Polisi

Policy managers live at the centre of this role, working across the FSA, as well as both the Welsh Government and a range of centralised government departments to progress food legislation on behalf of Welsh Ministers. There are so many areas that the Regulatory Policy team touches upon, and successful candidates will find themselves liaising with local authorities, industry figures and other stakeholders in the Welsh food systems.

Meat hygiene policy is a vital part of the FSA’s work, ensuring not only the public’s health but also the welfare of the animals that we eat. Our policy managers take the lead on different issues under this remit, making sure that Welsh interests are taken into consideration by the FSA as we progress policies in any number of fields, from sheep aging to the regional interest in ‘smokies’.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, who is able to work alongside and influence people from across both government and the industry itself. They will understand the importance of the FSA, and why we always put the consumers’ interests first – but will also be keen to ensure Welsh interests are part of the equation as well. This is an opportunity to bring about both national and local change, and you will be keen to work hard towards that, looking at the organisation around you and asking yourself at all times how we can better ourselves.
