The role is to assist the Motor Transport Officer by organising transport details and associated tasks as per civilian and military legislation/regulations and Unit MT Standing Orders.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The Garrison MT supports a diverse range of driving tasks, but principally it supports DSCIS and especially Phase 2 soldiers requiring medical/rehabilitation attention. The MT Details Clerk is an integral post within the department, acting as the first point of contact and SME for all transport requests within the Garrison and providing valuable guidance to units and personnel. Receiving and processing over 250 F/MT 1000 transport requests each month, the postholder scrutinises all vehicle requests to guarantee compliance with local and MOD policy. Once approved, the postholder actions all requests, efficiently utilising Garrison fleet and external hire vehicles in accordance with MOD policy and scheduling resources to provide the best value for money for the Department. The postholder works in direct liaison with the Travel Resource Manager for the financial authorisation of hire vehicles, MMA and overtime.
The key tasks are as follows:
a. Scrutinise all travel requests guaranteeing compliance with all local and MOD wide policies.
b. Liaising with customers to discuss requirements ensuring the most economical way of transport is achieved.
c. Assist customers in the completion of travel requests creating a full customer service
d. Sometime drive vehicles when required.
e. Keep up to date with MOD transport policy.
f. Proactively targeting relevant risk and taking mitigating action as appropriate.
g. Report any unusual circumstances to the line manager.
