Legislation Project Lead Job at UK Government – Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government in London

Job Description

This includes responding to the recommendations of Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, many of which will require legislation. The individual would be joining an established legislation team currently working towards finalising primary legislation ready for introduction in early 2021 and initiating an expansive secondary legislation programme.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to become a Legislation Project Lead and deliver key strands of work within the building safety legislation programme. The post-holder will be expected to liaise with policy colleagues, legal advisers, Parliamentary Counsel and cross-Government colleagues to help ensure successful drafting and safe passage of the legislation. They will report to the Secondary Legislation Lead and be involved in all activities required by the Legislation Team – including leading on specific projects and workstreams, ensuring products are produced on time and to quality, and ensuring Ministers are effectively briefed and supported as the legislation progresses.

The Portfolio is a supportive, collaborative place to work, leading on extremely high profile and fast-paced issues, and dealing with urgent, complex and challenging policy considerations and political demands.

Key Skills/Criteria:
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a proven ability to work independently and at pace to plan and deliver high profile projects. They will have excellent drafting skills and be able to build and manage relationships, including with senior officials and Ministers in the Department and across Whitehall. They will have the mental agility, energy and personal resilience to operate in a fast moving and stretching environment with personal autonomy – including adapting quickly to new demands, developing creative solutions for complex tasks and working flexibly to support the team as a whole to deliver.

Experience of working on legislation or with Parliament would be desirable but is not a necessity.
