1.0 FTE

Lecturer Grade 7 Salary: £33,797 – £38,017

Senior Lecturer Grade 8 Salary: £39,152 – £49,553

Plymouth Marjon University is seeking an experienced and passionate outdoor practitioner who is a university graduate to join the highly successful and internationally recognised Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning team. Our location in SW England provides a wealth of fantastic local venues for teaching [Dartmoor National Park, Plymouth Sound, surfing beaches, and rivers of south Devon and Cornwall] and our single campus is small and intimate with excellent teaching facilities onsite: climbing wall, swimming pool for kayaking, woodlands, and our Outdoor Adventure Centre which houses our fieldwork equipment.

Your main responsibilities will be teaching on the long-established BA (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Education (this degree is accredited by the Institute for Outdoor Learning) and the recently validated BA (Hons) Outdoor Learning in Early Years and Primary Education. Teaching is fieldwork and activity based underpinned by the range of theoretical concepts and constructs found and emerging in this discipline. Experiential pedagogies are used to maximise students’ embodied fieldwork experiences.

You will be joining a small team of experienced and passionate outdoor academic practitioners. Your working attitude will need to be creative, reflective, playful, and curious. You will have a wide range of outdoor practice, both in terms of activities, locations and educational contexts. Interest and/or experience in academic research and publishing in this discipline would be advantageous.

  • Residential outdoor education
  • Research methods in education
  • Land based adventure sport
  • Introduction to outdoor experiential learning
  • Introduction to applied physiology and psychology in adventure sport
  • Foundations of coaching and instructing
  • Forest and Beach schools
  • Dartmoor for outdoor learning
  • Creative practice for outdoor learning
