Key responsibilities for this role include:
Provide technical oversight of the work of external partners conducting solid state physical and chemical characterisation of drug substances and excipients. Plan the experimental work and critically review reports Lead method development and validation activities for physical properties methods incorporating ICH guidance as appropriate Contribute to raw material stability protocol design and execution, including application of current regulatory guidance Process and review data, interpret results and report experimental outcomes to project development team Identify strategic opportunities to improve departmental capabilities, e.g.
by implementation of new technologies Lead the troubleshooting of instrumentation and investigation of aberrant sample results Maintain laboratory documentation in accordance with cGMP documentation practices Contribute to project delivery by carrying out other tasks (e.g. laboratory housekeeping, ordering shipping samples) as required Work with other senior analysts to lead the analytical laboratory operation and identify opportunities for improvements in working practices and procedures The minimum qualifications for this role are:
Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent with substantial practical work experience. Familiar with solid state analytical techniques such as particle size characterisation by laser diffraction, light and scanning electron microscopy, isothermal calorimetry, solution calorimetry, thermoanalysis (TGA, DSC), sorption techniques (DVS, surface area and energy determination), vibrational spectroscopy (IR, Raman), and XRPD. Highly familiar with calculations used in analytical chemistry and the application of statistics Excellent written and oral communication skills, alongside I.
T skills to include Microsoft office. Desirable experience with setting specifications for drug substance and inhaled drug products. Desired expertise in particle engineering techniques (e.g. micronisation) and in solid state quantification method development and validation including previous experience of amorphous content determination.
