Working as part of the landside operations team, you will support the team and operations manager to deliver best in class Port to DC service to our business. The role involves providing operational expertise to a team of imports co-ordinators to complete container DC bookings in line with customer demand and DC capacities. As an Imports controller, you will support the Operations Manager by proving required analysis and reports to support the planning of non-food stock flow with both internal stakeholders and external service providers. You will need to build strong and effective relationships with a range of internal stakeholders from Logistics planning, Non-Food product flow teams and the Jewellery & watches commercial team.
The role is fast paced, dynamic and involves one of the biggest transport operations in the UK. To be successful in this role you will need to have a positive, problem solving approach to challenges and the ability to influence at Senior Management level both internally and externally.
More about the role:
Provide accurate forecasts of group wide import container arrivals into the UK – to both internal stakeholders and 3rd party service providers.
Manage Sainsburys Group container storage requirements through accurate forecasts and ensure required stock is booked into DCs within priorities.
Support KPI management of haulage and storage 3rd parties by providing accurate analysis of issues with recommendations to recover risk and maximise opportunities whilst reducing costs.
Support the freight management and stock flow of all Jewellery POs.
Identify best practise and continually review existing internal processes, ensuring inefficiencies are identified in line with business needs.
Optimise the deliveries into our national & regional distribution centres or into off-dock storage facilities in the most cost-effective manner within specific timescales (OTIF) resulting in increased availability for customers.
Work closely with our warehouse & product flow teams to help optimise operations and reduce occasions where inbound productivity might be affected.
Build effective relationships with 3rd party partners including our freight manager, haulage providers and Distribution Centre teams.
No line management responsibility -team includes 6 Imports Co-ordinators (C3 level).
Part of a wider Imports & Exports team of 34 colleagues.

More about you:
Minimum 2 years experience of working in internal or external supply chain / logistics / freight management is essential.
Demonstrate commercial awareness and an understanding of trading, global sourcing and supply chain operations gained in an FMCG environment.
Strong inter-personal skills with the capability to build effective relationships with & communicate clearly to all levels up to Snr Manager (SM).
Resilience to operational challenges with the foresight & proactive management of daily challenges in difficult situations through to resolutions.
Ability to deputise for C5 Imports Operations Manager – Landside.
First class attention to detail with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
