Have you already taken the first steps in your career in healthcare but need support to progress onto the next step? If so, we are launching a brand new role especially for you.

The role of Trainee Healthcare Assistant is specifically aimed at individuals who have an interest in a healthcare career, who have already gained an academic grounding in the core topics through a BTEC or equivalent qualification and who are now ready to put their learning into practise to gain the practical experience needed to work as a Healthcare Assistant.

If successful, you will work in one of our inpatient (ward) areas at one of our hospital sites or in one of our Community nursing teams from the start of your training.

You will be supported by your team and the Trust’s Organisational Development team to complete further learning through the Trust’s Skills in Practice programme and the national Care Certificate. You will achieve the clinical competencies to become a Healthcare Assistant through a number of practical assessments.

We envisage that your learning should take no longer than six months, after which, provided you meet the standards expected, you will automatically progress into the role of Healthcare Assistant.

We only have 10 places available on this programme, and before you apply there are a few things you need to consider:

The assessment centres for these posts will take place on 28th June and 6th July 2021 and you must be able to attend one of these dates.

The assessment will be held virtually, so you will need to have access to Microsoft Teams in order to participate.

The assessments will be designed to test some of your learning during your studies as well as your attitude and values.

You will be asked to confirm as part of your application that you are on a programme to achieve a BTEC, or that you have already achieved the qualification. You don’t need to have received your official BTEC results by the date of your assessment centre, but you should include on your application any predicted grades, and you will be asked to provide evidence of your achievement as part of the pre-employment check process before you can start the programme.

You must be available to start training on the 18th October 2021.
