We are privileged to have a large, bright, child friendly unit with adolescent facilities, sensory facilities, outdoor play area and excellent links with other services such as Speech and Language Therapy and Healthy Young Minds. Our unit consists of 4 distinct areas:

INPATIENTS – 25 inpatient beds with scope to open to additional capacity during periods of high demand providing quality care to a large variety of patients with medical and complex needs whilst also providing an expanding paediatric surgical service.

CRITICAL CARE – A newly expanded 4 bedded critical care area to care for level 1 and 2 paediatric critical care patients.

PAEDIATRIC OBSERVATION & ASSESSMENT UNIT (POAU)– a busy 24hour unit working closely with colleagues in paediatric Accident and Emergency, Primary and Tertiary Care

OUTPATIENTS – We provide Outpatient services to children and young people across Oldham and Rochdale from two sites.

Main duties of the job

Following significant investment to support an ongoing and dynamic development programme, the Children’s Unit is recruiting band 2 Health Care Assistants to complement & enhance the current staffing establishment.

We follow a blended workforce model and are interested in creatively enhancing our workforce to meet the needs of our children and young people. We would be interested to hear from you if:

You would like to predominately work night shifts

You would like to explore non-traditional shifts such as twilight hours, mid shifts, shorter shifts to cover peak activity

You have an interest/skills in caring for children and young people with mental health needs

Person specification

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria

Achievement of National Care certificate or willingness to work towards

L2 Health related vocational qualification e.g. NVQ or willingness to complete level 2 apprenticeship within 18 months of employment

Desirable criteria

English and maths at level 1 (equivalent to GCSE grade D-G) or willingness to work towards

Knowledge, Skills and Experien

Essential criteria

Experience of promoting care formally / informally

Good communication skills

Good organisational skills

Good customer service skills

Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service

Excellent personal appearance and adherence to trust policy on work wear.

Reliable and punctual

Desirable criteria

Demonstrate an interest or previous experience in caring for patients in an acute setting

Basic knowledge of IT packages

Experience of working in a team
