Handover Coordinator Job at Jacobs – in Barrow-In-Furness
About the project:
Barrow-in-Furness is home to one of the few shipyards in the world that builds nuclear submarines. The shipyard is currently building Astute-class submarines (97m in length) and has begun manufacturing its next generation of Dreadnought-class (154m in length) submarines. To provide the required capabilities to support the Dreadnought production, the site is undergoing redevelopment through the construction of new state-of-the-art facilities and upgrading the existing facilities and buildings.
The Barrow Site Redevelopment Programme (SRP) was commissioned by BAE Systems Submarines in 2011 as part of the wider Dreadnought Programme of works. It the UK’s most complex integrated defence infrastructure programme, comprising multiple diverse projects on a live manufacturing site, with further complexity added by nuclear licencing requirements. The projects follow the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 8-stage plan of work, from strategic definition to use. The programme seeks an investment greater than £1bn, marking the largest investment on the shipyard site since 1986.
Barrow is a beautiful coastal town located in the picturesque county of Cumbria in the Lake District. BAE have a significant presence in the local community, with around 10,000 personnel currently in the area.
