About us

The DfE (Department for Education) have set clear ambitions and aims for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. This newly funded programme will provide food and activities for four days for each of the 6 weeks covering Easter, Summer and Christmas breaks. Open to children of statutory school age who are eligible for FSM (Free School Meals), provision must be available for all those who are eligible over West Sussex.

You will join our Education and Skills Service under our Children, Young People and Learning Directorate, who are committed to meet the needs of all children and young people, with a particular focus upon our most vulnerable and disadvantaged to ensure they reach their full potential.

About the job

Salary: £19,312 – £19,698 per annum

Working Pattern: 37 hours per week (full time)

Contract Length: Fixed Term until 31 March 2022

Location: County Hall, Chichester

Interview Date: TBC (interviews may take place via MS Teams, or face to face following covid secure guidelines)

You will need to travel across the County, sometimes to locations not always accessible by public transport.

As part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme, funded by the DfE, WSCC are looking for a HAF Administrator to join our fantastic team.

The aims of the HAF Programme include the following key aims for children receiving Free School Meals:

Eat more healthily

Be more active

Take part in engaging and enriching activities

Be safe and not isolated

Have greater knowledge of health and nutrition

Be more engaged with school and other services

Have greater knowledge and awareness of holiday club provision

As a HAF Administrator you will work closely with the HAF Programme Coordinator, supporting the delivery of the HAF Programme. This role entails working with customers and schools, providing advice and guidance. You will work flexibly across a range of locations dealing with queries and responding to problems where appropriate.

You will manage multiple tasks, such as large quantities of data input, with care and accuracy. You will be required to use Microsoft Office Suite to access databases, photocopiers, and scanners.

We are looking for someone who enjoys customer service and who can use their analytical and judgement skills to effectively assist customers.

Experience and skills

Key Skills:
Good communication, customer service and interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with the general public and act as a point of information, advice and guidance where appropriate.

Ability to work as part of a team, completing shared tasks in order to deliver a service to others.

Ability to meet set deadlines and to understand when problems need to be referred upwards, e.g.in responding to complaints promptly for a quick accurate solution.

Analytical and judgement skills in order to effectively assist with customer queries.

Proficient IT skills, using Microsoft Office Suite, in order to be able to use service databases, photocopiers, scanners and the internet with accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications and/or experience:
4 GCSEs with A-C passes including Maths and English or equivalent qualification or experience demonstrating that level of numeracy and literacy.

An IT qualification or equivalent experience demonstrating good working knowledge of IT systems / procedures.

Level 3 Information, Advice and Guidance qualification – Desirable

Literacy, numeracy, and communication skills sufficient to follow procedures for a range of support tasks.

Experience of dealing with the public and providing an excellent customer service providing specialist information, advice, and guidance.

Experience of team working.

Experience in the delivery of child or family support services in the statutory or non-statutory sector – Desirable
