About the Department
Cloudflare’s Engineering Team builds and runs the software that handles about 10% of HTTP requests on the Internet today. We also build and run the internal tools that builds and runs our software. The Engineering Team is split into two groups: one handles product development and the other handles operations. Product development covers both new features and functionality and scaling our existing software to meet the challenges of a massively growing customer base. The operations team handles one of the world’s largest networks with data centers in 102 cities worldwide.
What you’ll do
Working within Cloudflare’s Security Engineering portfolio, you will lead a team of passionate, talented engineers who are building innovative security products that touch billions of web requests each day. In this role, you will introduce tools and processes to make our engineer’s lives better and more productive. Working closely with the Product function, you will play an active part in shaping product strategy based on what’s technically possible. You obsess on best practice, metrics, designing our systems to compartmentalise data, investigating every crash or unexpected piece of behaviour in detail. You will make sure our company hits our ambitious goals from an engineering standpoint.
You bring a passion for meeting business needs with building technically innovative solutions, and excel at shifting between the two—understanding how big-picture goals inform technical details, and vice-versa. You thrive in a fast-paced iterative engineering environment and have experience delivering scalable distributed systems. Most importantly, you will have a track record of having past teams respect you as both a technical leader and manager.
-Previous experience in engineering management
-Solid foundation and proven experience in computer science, with strong competencies in algorithms, data structures, software design, and building large, distributed systems
-Strong track record of planning, creating teams and overseeing execution to meet commitments and deliver with predictability
-Demonstrate a track record of managing a team including hiring, on-boarding, and professional development. You inspire your team to reach higher. You’re as good as explaining “why” as you are “how”
-Previous experience implementing tools, process, internal instrumentation, methodologies and resolving blockages
-Strong track record of managing teams/projects with tight deadlines and short release cycles
-Familiarity working with DNS, database systems, Internet performance, and/or Internet security
-You will own and drive the technical vision, roadmap and backlog for your security team
-You will work closely with Product to define the roadmap and backlog in a way that meets business objectives
-You will be responsible for the delivery of your engineering team day to day
-You will be responsible for ensuring your security team is prepared and able to respond to security incidents as necessary
-Working collaboratively with Product, you will be responsible for ensuring your security team is delivering products on time and to the necessary standards
-You will ensure your team identifies, has access to and monitors the right KPIs for your unit to ensure its operating safely and efficiently
