Job Description

Venator is currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager on an 18-month Fixed Term Contract reporting to the Site Manager at the Kidsgrove site in Stoke on Trent.

The purpose of the role is to manage the engineering function and its site services, support the sites process safety activities and act as Deputy Site Manager when required.

Job Responsibilities include:
Ensure provision of a safe, cost effective, efficient engineering service to the Kidsgrove site that adheres to all engineering standards and procedures for compliance with statutory and corporate requirements.

Support the business in the control, management and recording of both revenue and capital maintenance cost budgets.

To provide an effective maintenance programme for the buildings, plant and services on a shift basis to ensure minimum plant downtime in compliance with the approved site procedures.

Lead the development of and co-ordinate activities on planned and statutory inspections and be the engineering contact for external regulatory inspections and audits

To provide a service to maintain and approve the sites technical drawings and P&ID’s

To oversee the design and specification of engineering projects including cost estimation and capital request proposal, to ensure best practise and be responsible for project implementation, contractor management and ongoing maintenance thereafter.

To develop and champion a safety culture within the Engineering Department including Process Safety management. Support & promote Zero Harm across all areas of site enabling tangible improvements to site & departmental ZH metrics and performance.

To actively engage with Process Safety Management at all levels in the business and support the implementation of PS Standards with active participation on Process Hazard Studies and Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews.

To proactively participate in resolving process, equipment or quality, and Environmental, Health and Safety problems as quickly as possible and to assist in the maintenance of Production continuity in a planned and safe manner.

The Site Manager is not based at Kidsgrove full time and therefore when required the jobholder will act as Deputy Site Manager in specific situations and instances that are within the jobholder’s capability. Taking accountability for internal communications and any other requirements as outlined by the Site Manager.

To manage, inspire and coordinate the on-site Engineering team and to develop and assess their competencies in order to deliver the sites requirements, department objectives and induvial targets in an effective and efficient manner.

To champion the development and use of the sites preventative maintenance planning system “Idhammer MMS”. Establish preventative maintenance regimes for plant ensuring compliance and recording of activities through Idhammer.

To carry out those duties that are assigned, as the Qualified Person, and to assist the Site Manager in the selection of other Qualified Persons and Functional Advisers that may be required to support the sites activities.

Develop staff and roles within area of responsibility to improve capability and flexibility in establishing a multi-skilled workforce. Ensuring all are suitably trained and comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental requirements of the company and appropriate legislation.

Knowledge, Experience and Attributes:
Degree qualified Electrical / Mechanical Engineer

NEBOSH Certificate & IOSH Managing Safely or other safety accreditation.

Understanding of the compliance requirements of applicable UK Major Accident Hazard legislation, including Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) 2015. Experience preferable.

At least 5 years’ knowledge and experience in the maintenance of systems including mechanical, gas, electrical, instrumentation and control systems.

At least 5 years’ experience in the management of process safety at plant level including, Management of Change and participation in Process Hazard Analysis & Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews.

Project planning & management experience.

Leadership experience of multi skilled maintenance teams is essential

At least 5 years’ knowledge / experience of working with chemical processes in a similar environment is essential in order to fully carry out process improvements and to operate safe working practices.

At least 5 years’ knowledge / experience with regards to kiln operation and proficiency in both combustion processes and burner technology.

Problem Solving – capable of establishing facts through sound analysis of problems and identifying options to resolve them. Able to justify the selection of preferred options and see them through to implementation.

Able to take decisions and recognises the need to consult, inform and escalate as appropriate.

Organisational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and engineering team on track

An open- minded flexible attitude to meeting the requirements of the business in a safe manner.

Recognises change / deviations from planned activities and is able to effectively stop, communicate and re-plan activities in a well-managed manner.

An effective negotiator and able to establish strong partnerships with suppliers and hold them to account.
