We are part of Buckinghamshire Council’s Children’s Services Directorate and provide interventions to young people who have offended or are at risk of offending, to create safer communities. Working with our partners within the Criminal Justice System, including Police and the Courts, we assess young people for their suitability for intervention, addressing risk, safety and well-being factors.

As our Education Officer, you will monitor the education that young people receive, increase their motivation for education and training opportunities, and work to ensure they receive an appropriate education or training placement.

About us

In April 2020 Buckinghamshire Council became the UK’s newest council and the residents of Buckinghamshire will be served by a single, unitary council.

Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK and yet it is incredibly well connected– only an hour from London on the train. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

We are looking for motivated, ambitious and inspiring people to join us on our journey. Not only will you be an integral part of the unique and exciting transition through the unitary process, you will also be entitled to a range of different benefits to make sure you are happy both at work and at home.

About the role

Please see attached job description for further details.

About you

If you are motivated to achieve positive outcomes for young people, whilst promoting equality and inclusion, this could be the role for you.

You’ll come to us with relevant experience of working with young people, including those with special needs, and have the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with both clients and partner agencies.

Sound knowledge and an understanding of educational legislation is a must, as you support young people to achieve better outcomes.

Above all, you will have the skills to engage and motivate young people through a period of change.

Prevention Worker, Fabian said: ‘For me, the most rewarding thing is when you have a challenging case, and you work hard to build a relationship with that young person; when you finally see that golden moment, where they start to become engaged, and want to open up and talk to you. That’s the reason I got into Youth Work – it’s about never giving up, it’s about working with that young person to understand their emotions and reassuring them that it’s going to be OK.’

Other information

Career development is something we are passionate about at Bucks, and you’ll join a team who are committed to sharing knowledge and working collaboratively to provide the best service to our clients. From online courses and webinars, to supporting you through more formal qualifications, we are keen to build our Youth Offending Service and make the most of what our staff have to offer.

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future. Microsoft Teams, Skype, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to become even more flexible in how, when, and where our teams work. This role is to be based in Aylesbury and there will be a requirement to travel cross county where necessary. As long as it works for us, we encourage you to adopt a flexible working approach and take control of your own work-life balance.

At Buckinghamshire Council, we know that our biggest strength comes from the people that work for us, and that’s why we’re working hard to ensure we continue to be an accessible and inclusive organisation.

We believe our workforce should reflect the diverse communities we serve in Buckinghamshire and are looking for like-minded individuals to join us in promoting equality, fairness, and inclusion for everyone.

We’re committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of our children, young people and vulnerable adults. Before you join us, you’ll need to apply for an advanced level DBS check.
