Civil Engineer Job at Awcock Ward Partnership – in Exeter

Job Description

Civil Engineer vacancy 2021

We are looking to recruit a Civil Engineer to support our growing workload and to join our young and vibrant team with a strong, collaborative working ethos. We would like the successful candidate to start work as soon as possible.

As a small, award-winning consultancy and accredited Gold with Investors in People we provide our staff with excellent opportunities to get involved in all aspects of our design work and to work on some of the most prestigious development projects in the south west.

You would be working on the planning and design of Flood Risk, Drainage and Utilities Solutions for a range of residential, retail, industrial and commercial developments. All civil engineers are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards ICE professional qualifications through our ICE approved Training Scheme, with internal and external training opportunities being provided.

Role

The varied role will include the planning stage of projects working alongside specialists producing Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies and Utility Strategies to support planning applications.

You would also be involved in the production of infrastructure designs for technical approval and construction. You can expect to be working on a number of projects at any given time and you will report to, and be mentored by, one of our management team, all of whom are Chartered Civil Engineers

This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced graduate to gain a wide range of further experience in the early years of a career in civil engineering consultancy.

Requirements

You will have graduated in the last 5 years with a good (2:1 or above) BSc, BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering and ideally will have 2 – 5 years consultancy experience.

You will have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to demonstrate delivery of packages of work as part of a team.

However, what we are really looking for is someone who is enthusiastic with a willingness to learn. Working experience of MicroDrainage, PDS or Civil 3D would be preferred along with a sound knowledge of AutoCAD, and an understanding of the planning system and technical approval of adopted infrastructure, but full training will be given. Demonstrating the progress you have made with an existing ICE training agreement would also be beneficial.

Due to the pandemic, we are currently operating as a remote office and therefore a strong internet connection is essential. Attending the office is currently restricted to business-critical affairs but we will be looking to begin a flexible and staggered return to the office once restrictions are lifted.
