Working as an Ambulance Care Assistant
As part of your working day you will be responsible for the welfare of your patients, many of whom may be in poor health, we will ensure you have the additional skills needed to treat patients in the event of a medical emergency.
As well as driving an ambulance, you will be required to lift or assist patients into the ambulance using the latest specialised equipment. You will be responsible for the patient’s safety, ensuring their journey is as comfortable as possible and they arrive at their appointment or admission in a timely manner.
Many of your patients may be nervous or worried about their forthcoming appointment or admission and some will live very lonely lives, you may be the only person they get to talk to, making it essential for you to be a compassionate and caring person. You will find many of our patients make regular trips for outpatient appointments or hospital visits and you will have the opportunity to make a difference to their lives.
Working from either an ambulance base or directly from a hospital, you will cover an area under the guidance of a Contract Manager. You may work as a single crew member or be part of a double crew, using an ambulance with a ramp fitted for wheelchairs or stretchers and at times you may convey more than one patient at a time. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate records are logged for each journey.
You will carry out vehicle daily inspections (VDI) to ensure your ambulance is fully equipped and road worthy. You will also be responsible for making sure that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy at all times.
